How we choose topics
Travels News covers holiday consumer rights and travel protection. This includes what counts as a package holiday, how ATOL and other financial protection work, travel insurance, budget travel and some of the trends currently affecting travel. We choose topics readers are actively trying to understand, and prefer to provide them with one in-depth and up-to-date article about a topic rather than a number of superficial articles saying the same thing. When we come back to a topic we update the article or merge it with an existing article rather than producing substantially identical copy.
Sourcing standard
- Claims about law, tax, money or health are checked against a primary or official source, such as GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, HMRC, the Bank of England, the ONS, the NHS or the relevant regulator, and that source is linked.
- Figures that change over time are dated to the tax year or period they apply to.
- Historical claims are checked against reputable reference works, and where sources disagree we say so.
- We do not invent quotes, statistics, case studies or first-hand experiences.
- Articles explain how things work in general. They are not personal financial, legal or tax advice.
Independence
The articles are meant to be useful for the readers. If an article contains a commercial link or other sponsored content, then this must be clearly marked.
Corrections
We correct errors of fact as soon as possible. If a correction affects the meaning of an article we update the text of the article and, where it helps readers, note in it what changed. Out-of-date rules and figures are updated when an article is reviewed.
Contact
If you notice an error in an article, or you have a question about it, we’d like to hear from you. Please leave a comment on the relevant article and we’ll ensure that your comment is read by a real person before it’s published.
